You’re in luck with…lemons!

Aaah the humble lemon. More than just an accompaniment to a G&T 😉

 

We know that they’re great to add to dishes and drinks but their health benefits and cleaning power are fantastic too!

The uses for lemons are seemingly endless, we’ve rounded up 8 lemon uses and facts!

 

*It is packed with Vitamin C, regular intake can assist in boosting the immune system and if you do get sick it can assist with shortening the length of time that you are sick.

*World’s Healthiest Foods, – a quarter cup of lemon juice contains 31 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C and 3 percent of folate and 2 percent of potassium — all for around 13 calories. A whole raw lemon contains 139 percent of the recommended daily vitamin C intake and has 22 calories.

*According to Purdue University Horticultural Department., lemons are the most popular acid citrus fruits.

*People swear by drinking a glass of warm lemon water first thing in the morning, theories range from jump-starting the digestive system, a laxative effect, weight loss, detox. If you’re a daily lemon water drinker, it can’t do any harm and if you’re not, give it a try, it is rather refreshing! (We still followed with a coffee a bit later).

*Keep those lettuce leaves crisp and that gauc lookin’ green – yip, all you need to do is sprinkle a little bit of lemon juice over to keep them fresh.

*Soften tough elbows – cut a lemon in half and pop an elbow in each lemon half for a few minutes. For an extra “polish” mix baking soda and lemon juice to make a paste, apply to the offending elbows for a few minutes, gently rub and thoroughly rinse.

*It will keep your microwave sparkly and fresh – smelling – simply pop a bowl of water in your microwave and add a few tablespoons of lemon juice. Microwave on High for 5 minutes, the steam loosens any grime so you can simply wipe it away and it smells as fresh as a errr… lemon.

*Greater grater – if you’re struggling to get food out of your food grater run the flesh side of a cut lemon over the grate to loosen anything stuck.
